
Benjamin Garmezy, MD
Hematologist/Oncologist

Dr. Garmezy is a board-certified medical oncologist and the Assistant Director of Genitourinary Research for Sarah Cannon Research Institute at Tennessee Oncology. Dr. Garmezy specializes in genitourinary (GU) oncology research. He oversees investigational therapy trials for prostate, kidney, bladder and testicular cancers and offers a variety of treatment options to patients, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy and precision oncology.
Dr. Garmezy earned his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Michigan, followed by a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Association for Cancer Research. In 2020, Dr. Garmezy received the ASCO Annual Meeting Merit Award, which is awarded to fellows whose research is recognized for its scientific merit.
He holds additional certificates in physician education from the University of Texas McGovern Medical School and medical ethics from Baylor College of Medicine. Outside of his clinical and research work, he continues to work on educational activities for both medical trainees as well as established medical oncologists in clinical practice.
When he is not treating patients and conducting research, Dr. Garmezy enjoys spending time with his family, trying new restaurants and exploring the nearby parks with his children.
