Melissa L. Johnson, MD

Dr. Johnson a board-certified medical oncologist and the director of lung cancer research at Sarah Cannon Research Institute. As director of lung cancer research, Dr. Johnson leads the lung cancer clinical trial portfolio across the Sarah Cannon research network. In her role, Dr. Johnson focuses on early phase drug development and leads the solid tumor immune effector cellular therapy program at Sarah Cannon. She also currently serves as the chair of the Cancer Committee at TriStar Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.

Dr. Johnson’s research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed medical publications, including The New England Journal of Medicine, Clinical Cancer Research, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Clinical Lung Cancer and JAMA Oncology. She has presented at dozens of medical conferences and events. Dr. Johnson is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Scientific Committee.

Dr. Johnson earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She then completed an internal medicine residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, followed by a hematology/oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she served as chief fellow.

When she is not treating patients or conducting research, Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time with her family and dog, running, being outdoors and completing puzzles.
